ABOUT THE PLAY
Many years after 1914 and the beginning of the First World War, Milutin returns in his mind to the day when bells rang from all sides and called people to war. He, the protagonist and storyteller, recalls the painful moments that marked his life and the lives of many others. He tries to find answers to the questions that tortured the Serbian peasant and householder. For this uneducated but wise and righteous peasant, the most important thing in life is to take care of his mother, wife, property; feed the oxen, fill the barn and save face. In simple and emotional sentences, Milutin conveys the terrible images of war, measures the events with his standards and shows not only the senselessness of the war in which the victory was achieved by the decimation of the army and the people, the sacrifice of the youth, but also about the gullibility of the people who, led by the idea of a great state of the southern Slavs, leave their loved ones fighting and dying for"higher" goals that they cannot even explain to themselves.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Slobodan Danko Popović was born in Arandjelovac in 1928. He graduated from the Faculty of Law in Belgrade and started publishing his works in the sixties. The most common theme of his stories and novels was recent Serbian history through the sufferings and hopes of a small man. He wrote the drama The Death of Karađorđe, which was filmed for TV Belgrade in 1983, directed by Đorđe Kadijević. He wrote screenplays for several films, the most famous of which is the film Hajduk from 1980, directed by Aleksandar Petković. He published books of short stories Ceremonije and Kukurek i kost, novels Masters, Officers, Socks, Kuca Lukica and Konak u Kragujevacu... He also published books of essays such as Vreme laži, Nespokoji, Cetiri vetra...
ABOUT THE ACTOR
Nenad Jezdić (Valjevo, July 12, 1972) is a Serbian theater, film and television actor. He finished primary and secondary school in his hometown of Valjevo. He graduated acting at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade in the class of Professor Predrag Bajčetić. Member of the Atelje 212 theater since 1998, and of the Yugoslav Drama Theater since 2020. He played in dozens of theater plays performances, films and series, of which the Miracle in Šargan, Traveling Theater Šopalović, Uncle Vanja, Ljubinko and Desanka, Tour, Deadly Motorcycles, Saint George Kills the Dragon, The Grieving Family, Crni Gruja and the Stone of Wisdom, Seven and a Half, Dead Country , Radio Mileva, Truckers, Shadows over the Balkans, Roots, Wounded Eagle, Crni Gruja.
