About the play
The plot of the monodrama ‘Nadežda Petrović’ takes place on the last day of Nadežda’s life. This great painter and volunteer nurse died in a hospital room in Valjevo on 3rd april 1915, at a time when Serbia was in full swing of the war and a typhus epidemic which swept across the nation. Despite being completely worn out by the epidemic, which did not evade her, this courageous, remarkable woman, a true patriot and philanthropist, questioned the role of art at war till her last, dying breath, wondering about the ‘miracle of life and death’ – hopelessly trying to get back on her feet and tend to the wounded and the sick.
Biljana Đurović was born on 24th September 1976 in Aranđelovac. She graduated at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad in the class of Professor Petar Banićević. She performed at theaters across Serbia and Belgrade, to name some of them – The National Theatre, Zvezdara Theatre, Slavija Theatre in plays by Vida Ognjenović, Dušan Kovačević, Jiri Menzel. Aside from her theatre and TV work, she made several hundred leading roles for the Radio Belgrade Drama Department. She was awarded multiple times for her performance. She is the winner of ‘Vitomir Bogić’ annual Radio Award. She won four awards for her role as Katarina Nojber, in the play of the same name. It was directed by Miloš Jagodić and performed at the Theatre of Timočka Krajina ‘Zoran Radmilović’ in Zaječar. As for her portrayal of Nadežda Petrović in the monodrama bearing the same name, she won the award for best female role at two festivals - the 5th New European Theatre Action (N.E.T.A.) in Vratsa, Bulgaria and at the 12th Edition of International Monodrama Festival ‘Albamono 2015’ in Korçë, Albania. The play was directed by Božidar Đurović and produced by the Festival of Monodrama and Mime in Zemun. For the same role she received a gold diploma at last year’s Golden Knight festival in Moscow. Furthermore, she is a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade and Sinergija University in Bijeljina where she teaches Stage Speech and Speech Culture.
